Scottish Toasts and Graces (French Edition)

Toasts and Graces given when drinking are a long-established custom in Scotland's history. Toasting (the name derived from the custom of floating toasted bread in wine) reached this height of popularity in the eighteenth century, when it was used as an excuse for intemperate drinking. Guests would be called upon, one after the other, to raise their glasses to one another.

The "Grace Cup" was introduced as a way of keeping the restless Scots at the table until after Grace was pronounced, the cup of wine being passed after the "Grace". This little book contains many toasts and graces from the Golden Age of Scottish toasts, all enhanced by delightful and appropriate full-colour illustrations.
