Many people when they hear the word 'fossil' associate it with mysterious bones or shells of organisms which lived on the Earth very many years ago. The word fossil is derived from the Latin word fossilis which means 'something dug up' and at first was the term given to anything dug up but now means ancient shells, bones or etc preserved in rocks.
